Has this ever happened to
you? In your haste to meet up with your fishing buddies for a trip into
the mountains, you slam the trunk lid down on one or more of your
favorite fishing poles. What do you do? You were running late as it was,
so you quickly grab a couple of more poles out of the garage and
continue on your way. You may have thought, had I taken my dad's advice
to stock up on supplies that match my fishing poles, I could of resolved
this dilemma. Consequently, this wasn't the case. You chose not to do
this and could be now wondering, what the hell do I do now? Well maybe
you think, that you can find a fishing tackle shop along the way to the
fishing cabin. However, most of the time this is not the case.
Rod building supplies are
not usually readily available along the way, especially when you've left
before day break and are now off the beaten path in less than an hour.
Moreover, we must try and remember that Dad's give advice for a reason.
More often than not, the same or similar situation has happened to them.
For many of us it seems we have to learn the hard way.
After getting back home
follow these simple suggestions. Find a reliable tackle dealer whether
on-line or local. Since the Internet is now at our finger tips a lot of
us now prefer shopping from the convenience of our home. Remember rod
building supplies is not just for building but repairing as well.
Rod building supplies are
sometimes needed for on the spot repairs. While some are an easy fix
others are not. But at least, if you follow these simple tips, you can
keep them in your arsenal of favorites.
Here's just a few simple tips:
*Note: This applies to home
repair as well.
1.) Get a small separated
plastic box for each rod that you are taking. They're not expensive.
Label accordingly.
2.) Razor blade knife plus,
1/4 inch masking tape is necessary. Obtaining a all-in-one handy fishing
pliers, knife, etc. is quite useful and can be worn on the side of your
belt. For each pole get the exact replacement parts required. For
example, tip-top and line guides.
3.) Make sure that you have
tip-top glue, 2-part, 5 minute epoxy glue and wrapping threads. In
addition, I recommend color thread preserver and rod finish.
4.) Here's a really quick
fix alternative if you don't feel adept enough to fix your pole while at
the cabin. With a 2-piece, you can take the top side of a pole on the
trip, that is, if the ferrule fits and are of the same sensitivity.
5.) In addition, sometimes
going to garage sales, matching ones, can be found also. Note* Take your
rod with you when you go to a garage sale to ensure the right fit.
Garage sale shopping can usually produce really great finds and at a
super reduced price, too.
6.) Free print out
instructions on repairing or building are offered on-line at Custom Rod
Blanks from Flex Coat Corporation, compliments of Roger Seiders. To own
the complete Step by Step guide Order # D10. Custom Rod Blanks offers
this guide at a reasonable cost.
Will, there you have it.
Hopefully, these tips can, not only savage a trip but save you much
valued fishing time. Personally, I'd rather be fishing but sometimes s_
_t happens.
As always, good luck and good fishing.
